Let’s stay home.

Taproot Midwifery offers a unique hands-on holistic and evidenced based model of care that blends the ancient art of midwifery with current research. You're embarking on a life changing experience. I’m here to support not just your physical well being but also your emotional and psychological well being during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

I believe that pregnancy and birth are normal life events that are best supported by the individualized and skilled care that Taproot Midwifery offers. In order to provide this one on one individualized care I accept a limited amount of clients per month.

I welcome clients to come into care at any point in pregnancy, but encourage you to begin care as early as possible. It is very easy to transfer into the practice if you have been seeing an OB for part of your pregnancy.

PRENATAL CARE

Each appointment is up to 60 minutes long and I take the time to answer all your questions and educate you about what is going on in your body and with your baby. As your midwife, I want you to feel confident in your choices and empowered by your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences. The care at Taproot Midwifery is collaborative which means we discuss every test and procedure so that you feel that you are making a fully informed decision about your unique health care needs. It is your right to accept or decline any aspect of your care.

Healthy parents grow healthy babies, and a big focus of my care is making sure that you are getting adequate nutrition, sleep, exercise, and community support. Prenatal visits include a pregnancy-specific Abdominal Therapy treatment and Spinning Babies® exercises and techniques to bring balance to your body.

LABOR AND BIRTH

When it is time to have your baby, we will be in close communication. I provide in person midwifery care beginning in active labor. During your labor, I check your vital signs and the baby’s heartbeat with a handheld fetal doppler to ensure that things are progressing smoothly and safely. Additionally, I bring well-stocked birth bags full of supplies and emergency equipment just in case. After the baby arrives, I typically stay for 3-4 hours, making sure everyone is stable and healthy and that the baby is latching well. Before I leave, I perform a head-to-toe newborn exam.

One of my favorite aspects of midwifery care is normalizing birth for your family, chosen family, and friends. I love siblings, partners, and others being as involved in your pregnancy and birth as you feel comfortable.

POSTPARTUM CARE

Midwives excel at postpartum care with frequent visits to ensure breast/chestfeeding is going well, to rule out postpartum depression and anxiety, to check in on the transition to parenthood, and whether you are receiving adequate community and/or familial support. During this postpartum period, you will continue to have full on-call access to me via phone and text.

Placenta encapsulation services are available for an additional fee.

ROOTED IN COMMUNITY

Midwifery care lends itself to being a part of something bigger. I want you to feel supported by a larger community which is why I work closely with chiropractors, child birth educators, doulas, massage therapists, yoga teachers, herbalists, family resource centers, perinatologists, pediatricians, lactation consultants, acupuncturists, and others to create a trusted referral network that is available for whatever may come up during your care with me.
