I have a big announcement that I’m very excited to share. I am so pleased to announce that Taproot Midwifery will be relocating to Sacramento, California in January 2016. I will continue to offer all of the same Taproot services: homebirth, Arvigo Therapy, inseminations and fertility consultations, and well person care. Initially, all of my appointments will be home visits, although I’m looking forward to having an actual office for appointments, classes, support groups, and movie nights soon. And, of course, I will be looking for a new place for our popular weekly Taproot walk ASAP!

Taproot Midwifery is now beginning to offer prenatal appointments via phone and video chat for pregnant clients who live in and around Sacramento and who are due in April 2016 and later. I’m also offering this service for fertility consultations and for folks who would like to start inseminations in Sacramento as early as January 2016. Arvigo Therapy and all other in-person appointments will begin in January 2016.

I will be taking homebirth clients in Long Beach due through mid-December 2015, as well as inseminations and Arvigo Therapy appointments through the end of December 2015.

We’re moving for so many reasons, but mostly because it’s the right decision for me and my family. It is an act of love and of self-care. I need to live in a community where I can escape down a hiking path frequently, into the trees and rocks and rivers, even when I’m on-call for a birth. When I look two decades into the future, it’s where I want to be. Sacramento’s diverse community is vibrant and exciting and the city is just the right size – not too big and not too small. And perhaps most importantly, it’s right between my parents up in Washington and my partner’s parents in southern California. Both sets of parents are looking to move to Sacramento in the next few years, which will be absolutely key when there are little ones of our own running around in the future.

Looking towards a bright and beautiful future in northern California

Confidential to Long Beach: Taproot Midwifery was born here in Long Beach and in many ways was grown and nurtured by you. You will always hold an incredibly special place in my heart. With you, I found my midwife voice and discovered some new and deeply enriching paths (Arvigo Therapy comes to mind). Each and every one of you has touched me deeply and made me the midwife I am today. I love you and have nothing but the utmost gratitude for your presence in my life.

Welcome (in advance) to Sacramento! I saw your announcement on Facebook.
I’ve been a Sacramentan most of my life, and a doula since the early 1990s (thought I took five years from 1994-1998 to focus on my own family). I no longer attend births, but offer postpartum care, and lactation consultations, as well as HypnoBirthing classes and private hypnotherapy. It will be so good to meet you – and to have another midwife in our town:-)

Hi, we hold monthly meetings for our community midwives. One month is peer review and the next is a business meeting. We have a very good community of committed midwives who focus on supporting one another in our individual practices. There is welcome and love here. Please join us when you get settled. We have a weekly study group for students in any practice, conducted by myself and supported by the community. We have about 6 practices with a total of 9 LM, 2 CNM, and one amazing OB who does homebirth. We have a facebook joint community Homebirth Sacramento. Looking forward to meeting you.

Kaleem, thank you! Your peer review is legendary – everyone I meet talks about how kind and supportive the midwives are in Sacramento. I truly cannot wait to join such a wonderful community. Cannot wait.
